Derek is a native of North Carolina. He worked for Duke University Health System for a number of years before changing his career path to real estate. He gained invaluable experience initially working for Ticon Properties, Inc., a Durham residential leasing and commercial leasing real estate company, before joining Maverick Partners.
Since joining Maverick Partners, Derek, now Director of Sales, has established himself as a skilled Broker representing both buyers and sellers throughout the Triangle area. In addition to being an active member of the Durham Regional Association of REALTORS® (DRAR), he recently earned the designation of an Accredited Buyers Representative (ABR®) from the Real Estate BUYER'S AGENT Council of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (REBAC). He is also a member of the prestigious organization, REALTORS® Land Institute (RLI) and is a candidate for their Accredited Land Consultant (ALC) designation.
Derek's leisure activities include chess, tennis, filmmaking, photography, and golf. At Morehouse College in Atlanta, he took first place in the freshman chess tournament and was a walk-on tennis player. The film company's three productions were shown at local and regional film festivals, and the International Library of Photography featured one of Derek's photographs in a publication. He also won 3rd place at the 2005 TWIG Invitational "Flight C" Golf Tournament.
